John Fowles was an English novelist. He was born on March 31st in Leigh-on-Sea in Essex, England. John Fowles went to Bedford School and after that he got his education at Edinburg University. In 1945 he started his military service which he completed in 1947 to enter Oxford University where he studied both French and German.
His debut novel “The Collector” was published in 1963. The success of this novel meant that Fowles could stop teaching and devote himself full-time to a literary career.
John Fowles died on November 5th 2005 in a small town of Lyme Regis, in Dorset, England.
